We nodigen je van harte uit voor een lunchbijeenkomst op 23 oktober van 12:00-14:00, waar we een hoofdstuk uit het boek A Foodie’s Guide to Capitalism zullen bespreken.

In dit boek geeft Holt-Giménez prikkelende analyses en voorbeelden van de strijd om het voedselsysteem te hervormen, van "stemmen met je vork" tot landbezettingen. Het boek verkent de mogelijkheden en valkuilen van biologische en door de gemeenschap ondersteunde landbouw, fair trade-certificering, microfinanciering, agrarische hervormingen, coöperaties en voedselhulp. Het gaat ook in op hoe sociale bewegingen het voedselsysteem gebruiken om het kapitalisme uit te dagen.

Tijdens de lunch zullen we dieper ingaan op kritische vragen: hoe zijn racisme, klassenongelijkheid en patriarchaat structurele elementen geworden van ons voedselsysteem? En waarom lijkt eerlijke landbouw onverenigbaar met het huidige mondiale voedselregime?

We warmly invite you to a lunch meeting on October 23rd from 12:00-14:00 where we will discuss a chapter from the book A Foodie’s Guide to Capitalism.

In this book, Holt-Giménez offers insightful critiques and examples of the struggles to reform the food system, from “voting with your fork” to land occupations. The book explores the potential and pitfalls of organic and community-supported agriculture, fair trade certification, microfinance, agrarian reform, cooperatives, and food aid. It also delves into how social movements are using the food system to challenge capitalism.

During the lunch, we will dive deeper into critical questions: how have racism, classism, and patriarchy become structural elements of our food system? And why does fair agriculture seem incompatible with the current global food regime?
