Leen Hammenecker is an arts professional, dramaturg and artistic coach with over twenty years’ experience in the cultural and arts sector in Flanders and Brussels. Throughout her meandering career trajectory in music, theatre and the visual arts, and in a variety of roles, she has developed a keen awareness of what is needed to enable artistic ideas to take clear shape. She has coordinated artistic research and projects for a.pass, Kunstenpunt, Team Vlaams Bouwmeester and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp.
Leen works at the intersection where artistic ideas, creators, organisations and their environment meet. Under the name Bluebird, she helps artistic practices and ideas to relate clearly to their own sense of urgency and to the world in which they operate. Among other things, she mentors the artists involved in the Bosacademie, the residency programme at Het Bos, and engages in artistic dialogue with the practices of artists such as Benjamin Verdonck and Anaïs Chabeur.
She was once nicknamed ‘the sharpener’ by an artist.
