What is the position of the arts in our emerging peer2peer society?
That is the question that has kept us going since the very first drafts of our organisation in 2008. The p2p society is characterized by a non-hierarchical and non-democratic structure, contribution is without permission, validation is a posteriori. The most obvious and well known examples are wikipedia and of course open source software.
We can suspect that a more p2p structured society will create an increasing tension with the prevailing Western art view. Imagine the gap between the conceptual art and the crafts & maker skills that is so fundamental for the Western Modern Art concept. A concept that is anchored in an industrialised, capitalist world. If we argue that the interdependence of the capitalist system and the decentralised p2p movement will grow, there is no doubt that the arts will be influenced by this shift.
